When things don’t make sense
Life doesn’t always make sense. Often in my life, I’ve asked what was the sense of the challenge I was facing. Sometimes I was discouraged by the challenge and would ask: “Why is this happening to me? I don’t understand why I have to go through this again”.
Especially when you’re already under a lot of pressure, and when the next curve ball unexpectedly hits you, knocking the wind out of you, or when you have to face the same challenge again and again, destroying everything in its wake.
At times like these nothing makes sense. Then we wonder if God really exists. Then we wonder if He understands. Then we wonder if He really is with us wherever we go.
I wonder what went through Abraham’s head when God told him to go and sacrifice Isaac. He and Sarah had waited for so long. They’ve prayed and pleaded for so long. And then God promised that Abraham would have more descendants than sand on the beaches and stars in the sky.
And now he is instructed to go and sacrifice Isaac. Abraham didn’t understand what was happening or why. He must have had so many questions, wondering why God was asking this of him.
But soon Abraham calmed down, because he trusted God. Even though he didn’t understand exactly what was happening, his complete trust in God pulled him through.
This was how Abraham convinced himself to obey: 19Abraham figured that if God wanted to, he could raise the dead. In a sense, that’s what happened when he received Isaac back, alive from off the altar.
That’s what happens if you trust in God. You calm down and even though you don’t know exactly what is going to happen, you know that God will have a solution, one way or another. Even if takes a miracle, God makes happen what should happen.
And eventually everyone will emerge as winners.
We must remember this. Maybe you need to be reminded of it right now when it feels as if you are being overcome by the challenge. Like Abraham, just keep on trusting and believing that God will provide.
Even though it may take a miracle to tackle your challenge, God will make it happen. Look back at your life. You will recognise the moments when you thought it was the end and where God saved you.
It’s God’s way to make plans work out. All you have to do is to trust and leave everything to Him.

Reflection
What is not making sense to you right now?
Do you trust God?
Do you believe that He can do a miracle in your life?
Prayer
Father, I believe in You. I trust You with my whole life. I believe that You can do miracles in my life. I need one now. Amen.
