God's word in today's world

Your day will come

1 Samuel 24:4-6 The men said, “This is the day the Lord spoke of when he said[b] to you, ‘I will give your enemy into your hands for you to deal with as you wish.’” Then David crept up unnoticed and cut off a corner of Saul’s robe. Afterward, David was conscience-stricken for having cut off a corner of his robe. He said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed, or lay my hand on him; for he is the anointed of the Lord.”

Saul was chasing and hunting David. Saul wanted to kill him. David and his men were on the run. What a terrifying time it must have been, constantly running for your life and just trying to survive!

And then the one who was the cause of all this fear simply walked into the dark cave. Without his guards. What an easy target! Here was the man who was making David’s life hell and who, as David knew, was acting against God’s will. How easy it would’ve been to just deal with him right there and then.

David had literally and figuratively caught Saul on his knees!

But David did not give in. Not even under pressure from his men. He did not make his own plans. He stuck to God’s plan. David believed that his day would come when God would give the victory.

Just think about it. Who would have gotten the credit if David had taken Saul out with his pants down? Not God.

So many things happen in our lives where it seems like there is an easy way out from under the thunderclouds. Oh, it would be nice to sit in the warm sun again. But the question remains: Who will get the glory if you get out of there on your own?

It’s not always easy to struggle like this under the hardships that life and people bring our way. It’s even harder when you know that there is a way out, but that God’s time has not yet come.

David’s day did come. He was delivered, and he was restored to glory. For each of us, our day will also come, at the right time. We are called to endure, keep moving forward, and trust God for the way out, ensuring all the honour and glory return to Him.

Prayer
Lord, it’s not easy to wait and trust that You will show up at the right time. But I will wait. I will definitely wait …

Questions
Is there a situation where I try to take matters into my own hands instead of waiting for God’s timing?
Can I trust God, even when the outcome takes longer than I would like?
Who should get the credit when breakthroughs come in my life: God or me?

Do this now
Think of one situation today in which you become impatient because God’s timing seems different from yours.
Write it down and pray specifically about it. Tell God that you choose not to impose your own plan but to wait on Him.
Every time you find yourself worrying about it today, remind yourself, “My day will come in God’s timing.” Then choose to take one faithful step forward rather than trying to control the outcome.
