God's word in today's world

Your spiritual leader

At times, I don’t really know the answers to life’s questions. Often both directions at the T look right, but I know there is only one that I should choose.

From my experience of making wrong choices in the past, I know that I should wait before making a choice. Often, I have to get reinforcements, and that is when I count on people with the experience and wisdom to help me go in the right direction.

Everyone needs leaders in their lives, people who go ahead, people appointed to lead others. It is not necessary to walk the road of life all on your own; it is filled with hurt and hardship.

That’s why it is important to allow people to go ahead of you. However, you won’t find them behind every bush; they’re not necessarily waiting for you around every corner in the road of your life.

It is so important to join a faith community, because it is in this safe space that you can be yourself. In this family you will find leadership.

This is such good advice: 17Be responsive to your pastoral leaders. Listen to their counsel. They are alert to the condition of your lives and work under the strict supervision of God. Contribute to the joy of their leadership, not its drudgery. Why would you want to make things harder for them?

It is a huge responsibility to be a spiritual leader, because eventually each leader will have to explain why they sent people in a specific direction.

It’s not an easy job. In a way, every person thinks that they’re the boss and can tell the leader what they should do. But that person (the leader) is actually only accountable to God.

The saying goes that the highest trees catch the strongest winds, and it is not always easy to remain standing. That’s why it is good to hear that we should make it easy for them and not involve them in trivialities.

But it is also important that we put sufficient energy into our relationship with our leaders. Then when you need advice, the connection is clear and strong enough for guidance to flow easily.

Make a point of making life easier for your spiritual leaders. Go and spoil them. Compliment them often, because it’s a lonely job and they don’t always know whether they’re doing it right. Create an energising and welcoming atmosphere for them so that they will drop in for a quick visit.

That’s not too difficult, is it?
